Ultrasound is not only used for imaging purposes in the clinic. Indeed, they are also used to treat certain diseases. These ultrasound treatments are particularly useful in neurology when one wishes to treat an area of the brain, while avoiding disturbing the surrounding tissue. A treatment using ultrasound is being studied in the laboratory: it sensitizes brain tissue in a targeted manner and thus allows the use of new drugs to treat neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's.
